Ancona Ducks & Dominique Chickens

2025 Availability

I currently sell juvenile and adult Ancona ducks and Dominique chickens. While I don’t currently offer ducklings, chicks, or hatching eggs, I usually have a few friendly ducks, drakes, or young chickens available—especially during the summer months. I’m located in Bedford, VA and happy to arrange a local meet-up. Our Difference

Raising our animals with love is at the heart of everything we do

Ancona Ducks

With their unique, delightful markings and sweet personalities, our Ancona ducks are a cherished part of our little farm. Their gentle nature reminds us of the simple pleasures of farm life. Watching them happily splash in their pools, brings a special kind of warmth and joy to our everyday life.

Dominique Chickens

Our Dominique chickens are the ultimate farm comedians. Raised with lots of room to roam, these little feathered chickens are as happy as they are friendly. Tough, resilient, and always ready for a good peck at your shoelaces, they bring charm and character to our homestead.

Our Mission

Heritage Animals: Our mission is to preserve and protect heritage animal breeds, such as the Ancona Duck and Dominque Chickens. We are dedicated to maintaining and reviving breeds that have been passed down through generations, often at risk of disappearing due to industrial farming practices. Heritage breeds are valued for their historical and genetic significance. Heritage breeds are typically hardier, more adaptable to various climates, and less reliant on intensive farming inputs

April and hatching Leggs

April is one of the best times to start hatching eggs for Ancona ducks or Dominique chickens—especially if you’re using an incubator. As daylight increases and outside temperatures begin to rise, your home or barn naturally stays warmer and more stable, which helps maintain the ideal conditions for incubation. Humidity … Read more

Ancona Ducks + Water = Total Chaos (and I Love Them Anyway)

If there’s one universal truth about Ancona ducks, it’s this: they love water. Not like, “Oh, this is fun” love—more like, “I must fling it everywhere, immediately, with wild-eyed joy” kind of love. Give them a clean bowl or a fresh kiddie pool, and in approximately 90 seconds, you’ll have a splash … Read more

If you’ve ever had ducks or chickens, you know you’re not just a backyard farmer—you’re a full-time security guard. Around here, the hawks patrol the skies like feathery drones with talons, just waiting for the perfect moment to swoop in. My poor Dominique chickens can’t enjoy a dust bath in … Read more

Why a Covered Chicken Run Is a Must in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Living in the Blue Ridge Mountains means waking up to breathtaking views—and also sharing the land with an impressive lineup of predators. From hawks silently circling above to the occasional fox with sneaky intentions, it’s not exactly a safe free-for-all for backyard flocks. That’s why having a sturdy cover on … Read more

The Rooster Dilemma: Letting Go Is the Hardest Part

If you’ve ever raised chickens from chicks, you know the thrill of watching them grow—the way they fluff up their feathers, learn to scratch, and eventually cluck and crow their way into your heart. But sometimes, amidst all the joy, you’re faced with a tough reality: not every fluffy bundle … Read more

The Calming Rhythm of Farming: How Raising Animals Eases Anxiety

In a world that often feels like it’s moving a little too fast, there’s something about farming that has a way of slowing everything down. Whether it’s tending to the animals, feeling the earth beneath your feet, or simply watching the day unfold at a gentler pace, farming has a … Read more

Managing the Mayhem: How I Survive My Ancona Ducks’ Splash Zone

If you’ve ever given an Ancona duck access to water, you know it’s not a peaceful scene—it’s a full-blown aquatic party with zero regard for boundaries or cleanup. I’ve come to accept that mess is part of the package, but over time, I’ve also figured out a few tricks to … Read more
