Small homestead in bedford, va
Happy Ducks, Healthy Land, Grateful Hearts
Welcome to our small homestead in Bedford, Virginia, nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We are dedicated to respecting and nurturing the land while embracing sustainable farming practices that support local biodiversity. Our farm is home to heritage breeds of chickens, ducks, and other animals, with a focus on preserving and reviving breeds passed down through generations. These breeds are not only hardier and more adaptable to various climates but also require fewer intensive farming inputs, making them a vital part of our commitment to sustainable agriculture. Along with farming, we are a family of artists who show our love for the land and animals through woodwork, painting, photography, and drawings. Any sale of our art goes towards the care of our animals.*
* We keep our older fowl beyond their productive years. To some farmers this is considered an unnecessary cost. Here at Lucky Ducky Farm, we strive to provide our animals a loving forever home.

Our Story
A little history on How Lucky Ducky Farm got started
Crystal Imery traded a life of motorcycles for one of chickens. With a background in motorcycle racing and as the former owner of a large dealership in Florida, she now embraces a slower, more grounded lifestyle on the farm.
Carlos Imery is the farm’s unpaid laborer, tirelessly building structures with hopes of one day getting a paycheck (dream on, Carlos). When he’s not chasing that elusive payday, he can be found in his workshop, happily crafting new creations as the farm’s resident woodworker.
Crystal and Carlos Imery might not be the first duo you’d expect to start a homestead, but their journey is all about determination and heart. After more than a decade navigating the fast-paced life of Miami, they took a leap of faith, swapping city chaos for the peaceful charm of Virginia. With their unique backgrounds and shared passion, they’re building a homestead that’s not just about farming—it’s about crafting a slower life and more new adventures than they probably bargained for!

Our Location
We’re located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, where raising farm animals comes with its own set of joys and challenges. The stunning landscape and rugged, rocky terrain shape everything we do here. The cool mountain climate is ideal for our animals, but the temperature swings and winter snow require extra care to keep them warm and prevent their water from freezing. Protecting our animals from predators like coyotes, hawks, and bears can also be tricky, but we are learning to navigate it. Despite these challenges, there’s a deep, fulfilling connection to the land. The beauty of the mountains and the peacefulness of our surroundings make every bit of hard work feel worth it, and we truly appreciate the land and animals that make this life so special.
